45-year-old Blandon Richard (aka Blandon Todd Bessard) of Kaplan is headed to federal prison after getting busted with heroin he wanted to sell.

According to court documents, law enforcement agents tracked Richard to a home where he picked up the heroin from a dealer, then used a traffic violation committed by Richard to pull him over. Officers arrested him after seeing a baggie filled with heroin in plain view in the ashtray of the vehicle. A woman riding with Richard tried to hide the baggie in her pants at Richard's command, but the approximately 11.6 gram baggie was seized and tested. Richard was operating with others in the Lafayette area

Richard was indicted in May 2019 for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, then pleaded guilty on November 4, 2020. He was sentenced this week to 7 years and 6 months in federal prison.
