It's been a long time since we've heard anything new from Kreayshawn, but it turns out she actually stepped away from rapping awhile ago. The "Gucci Gucci" entertainer rose to popularity back in 2011 for her smash hit single, but has kept things pretty quiet ever since, with her last mixtape dropping in 2012.

In a new series of tweets, the Oakland native explains she stepped away from the mic in order to make room for more people of color, recognizing that she was too privileged to be profiting off of rap music. She says that although she "grew up broke and in the ghetto," she doesn't understand the struggle of a person of color.

"Yes, I made rap music and profited off of what I at the time understood as all I knew. Being broke and being a bad person," she writes. But she says she decided to leave rap alone because "I was too privileged. So many gr8 and talented WOC who make music deserved that spot more then me. And to take that spot with my white ass self was a insult."

The former White Girl Mob member also says that those who get upset at anyone who exclaims "white lives don't matter" have no idea what a person of color has gone through to say that. Her comments come in the wake of the violent protests that took place in Charlottesville by white nationalists.
