One Adult, Two Teens Identified In Arrests Connected To Viral Beating Of 11-Year-Old Lafayette Parish Girl
LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has identified one adult and confirmed two juveniles among those arrested in connection with a disturbing case involving an 11-year-old girl whose assault was captured on video and later spread rapidly across social media.
According to LPSO Public Information Officer Valerie Ponseti, 19-year-old Dakota Rodriguez was arrested and charged with simple battery and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
Two additional suspects, both teenagers whose identities are being withheld because of their ages, were each arrested on charges of simple battery.
Arrests Happened Before Videos Went Viral
As outrage over the incident continued to grow online, many questioned why arrests had not yet been made.
Ponseti clarified that the three arrests actually occurred before the videos began circulating widely across Facebook and other social media platforms.
The clarification comes after numerous posts and comments accused authorities of failing to act following the release of the footage.
According to investigators, law enforcement had already identified suspects and made arrests by the time the videos gained widespread attention online.
Video Continues To Spark Conversation Across Acadiana
The videos, which began circulating publicly in recent days, appear to show an 11-year-old Lafayette Parish girl being repeatedly attacked by multiple children while others watched and recorded the incident.
The footage quickly generated outrage across Acadiana.

Authorities have not publicly released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident or where it occurred.
Mother's Claims Added To Public Concern
The victim's mother previously shared allegations on social media claiming her daughter was assaulted for several hours and prevented from contacting her family for help.
According to the mother's account, the child eventually gained access to another person's phone and was able to secretly call home and provide her location.
She also alleged that firearms were present inside the residence and that threats were made against her daughter if she spoke about what happened.
Those allegations have not been independently confirmed by investigators and no charges related to those claims have been announced.

Investigation Remains Active
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are still possible as detectives continue reviewing evidence and conducting interviews.
Officials have not indicated whether more adults or juveniles could face charges as the investigation progresses.
The case continues to be one of the most discussed local stories across social media, with many community members continuing to call for accountability and justice for the young victim.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.
