How late is too late to be out? How late is too late to be out in Downtown Lafayette? How late is too late to be out in Downtown Lafayette if you're under the age of 18? All pretty good questions and all questions that will eventually be answered, especially the last one when the Lafayette City Council chooses to take up the issues of curfews for minors in the downtown area again.

That topic, a revision to curfew rules for minors, was supposed to be discussed and debated in last night's meeting of the Lafayette City Council. Instead, the council decided to defer the issue for a later date. The reason for the deferral was the debate over how the curfew would be implemented and enforced.

The proposed changes to the downtown curfew would involve enforcing the curfew between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am every day for minors under the age of 18. In other parts of the city, the curfew hours would be different. And the curfew applies to those under 17.

For example in any other part of town other than downtown minors must be off the streets between the hours of 11 pm and 6 am. That time frame shifts to 12m- 6 am on Friday and Saturday. By the way, the rules, penalties, and offenses surrounding the curfew would remain the same.

The Lafayette Council is expected to address the curfew issue at a later date, however, no specific timetable on when that discussion would resume has been posted.
