Breast Cancer has quickly become the most common cancer diagnosis in the country. Chances are you know a friend or family member who has battled this form of cancer or maybe you have gone through the fight yourself. For anyone familiar with breast cancer you know that just because the fight is over doesn't mean the journey is finished. Not only do cancer patients lose their hair during chemo treatment, but many diagnosed are forced to have a mastectomy which also visibly alters their body.

The perfect wig or bra can completely change a cancer patient's mood and confidence. In an effort to help women feel beautiful and confident during recovery, Miles Perret Cancer Services and La Femme in Lafayette have teamed up to help make a difference.

According to the Current, a new collaboration between Miles Perret and a local lingerie store, La Femme, are helping breast cancer survivors get acclimated and transition into their "changed bodies" by providing prosthetics and bras at no expense to the patient. Meaghan Savoy's main goal is to help women feel confident and beautiful again without feeling embarrassed or overwhelmed.

So much of a woman’s confidence and femininity lies in the way their silhouette looks, and remembering and feeling like it’s their body again

Its important to note that a having a macectomy and under going radiation therapy doesn't just affect the aesthetics of a patients body. Not having that natural weight their from their breast tissue also takes a toll on their muscles, joints, and bones.

It is so important for the weighted forms to be on your body as quickly as possible so that you maintain balance and strength, so you don’t create further pain

This collaboration will provide a "calm space" for cancer patients to explore their options, meet other survivors, do yoga, and even pick out a wig. La Femme owner, Meaghan Savoy, knew they needed to provide this safe space for cancer patients outside of her store that serves a diverse customer base.

It wasn’t always appropriate for a woman who was going through something, who had been through a cancer journey, to be next door to a girl getting her first fitting, or a loud bachelorette party

As of now, they are offering monthly fittings for post-mastectomy patients. More information can be found here. For those interested in contributing La Femme is hosting a "Shop for a Cause" event on Wednesday, September 27th where a percentage of the proceeds will benefit Miles Perret Cancer Services and their patients.
