
Lafayette Man Shot After Confronting Suspects Breaking Into Vehicle
A Lafayette man is recovering after police say he was shot while confronting suspects accused of attempting to burglarize his vehicle outside his home early Sunday morning.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, officers responded to a shooting around 1:49 a.m. on May 25 in the 200 block of West Butcher Switch Road.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim outside the residence suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Security System Alert Led To Confrontation
Investigators say the victim became aware of the attempted burglary through his home security system.
Police say two unknown suspects were attempting to burglarize the victim’s vehicle when the homeowner armed himself and went outside to confront them.
During the confrontation, the suspects allegedly fired multiple gunshots at the victim, striking him once before fleeing the scene.
Authorities say the suspects were unable to be located and remain at large as the investigation continues.

Lafayette Police Urging Residents To Use Caution
Following the incident, Lafayette Police issued a public reminder urging residents to prioritize safety during potential burglary or prowler situations.
Police recommend that anyone who believes someone is attempting to burglarize their property should immediately seek safety and call 911 rather than confronting suspects directly.
Investigators also acknowledged that situations can escalate quickly and encouraged the public to familiarize themselves with Louisiana self-defense laws.
