
Lafayette Teen Arrested After Woman Shot During Property Sale Attempt
Lafayette Police are investigating after a woman was shot multiple times during an attempt to sell personal property Tuesday afternoon (May 26).
According to Lafayette Police, officers responded to a local hospital around 4:48 p.m. on May 26 after a female victim arrived suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said the victim was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police Say Suspect Opened Fire During Exchange
Investigators determined the shooting happened in the 200 block of Mercer Lane in Lafayette.
Police say the female victim and her boyfriend were attempting to sell personal property to a suspect at the location. During the exchange involving the property and money, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the couple.
Authorities say the female victim was struck by the gunfire during the incident.
SWAT Team Assisted In Arrest
Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Alvin James Harris of Lafayette.
According to investigators, Harris was later apprehended in the 300 block of North Buchanan Street by members of the Lafayette Police Department’s TNT and SWAT teams.
Harris was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of Attempted First Degree Murder.
Police have not released additional details regarding the property involved or what may have led to the shooting.
