Maybe it's my age that's showing but unless there is ice on the roadway or the threat of frozen precipitation why wouldn't kids be expected to attend school on a day like today? I guess the Lafayette Parish Public School System agrees with my "old school" mentality too. Because there is school today in Lafayette Parish.

School officials have allowed for a slight variation in the system's dress code policy for this particular cold weather event.

Let's hope the ability to wear warmer clothing will help keep all of our kids comfortable as they make their way through the school day today.

The need for cold weather outwear will likely be short-lived today. Temperatures are expected to moderate into the upper 40s to nearly 50 degrees by this afternoon. That will certainly be more comfortable than the readings we experienced earlier this morning.

Oh, don't put the jackets and sweatshirts away just yet. A reinforcing blast of cold air is expected to move into the region tomorrow along with a chance of showers. Behind that storm system, temperatures will once again drop to near freezing by Friday morning. The outlook for Friday and the rest of the weekend is calling for mostly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures.
