The man who heads up Lafayette Travel will be serving on Governor John Bel Edwards' Resilient Louisiana Commission Hospitality and Tourism Task Force.

Multiple members of various factions representing different parts of Louisiana's economy have been asked to serve on the task force, and Lafayette Travel President Ben Berthelot will now also be serving.

The goal of the group is to come up with how the state moves forward under Coronavirus.

All of the members of these groups will be working to come up with ideas on helping the economy move forward in fifteen critical areas including tourism.

Bethelot, in addition to being the CEO of Lafayette Travel, he also serves at the Chairman of the Louisiana Travel Association Board of Directors.

The state of Louisiana's tourism industry has been hammered by the spread of Coronavirus and the ensuing 'stay at home order' needed in Louisiaina.

Berthelot will be serving on the Hospitality and Tourism Task Force.

He says,

Our industry has been impacted in unprecedented ways. I appreciate the opportunity to serve as we look toward the eventual opening of the industry and the new reality that awaits when we get to that pivotal point.

In a press release from the Governor's office, they say that all of the different groups under the task force will be studying the various economic issues, and they will be tasked with working to discover how to move the state's different industries forward once the Governor's 'stay at home order' is lifted on May 15.

There are several areas that the commission will focus on including the following:

  • Education and Workforce
  • Health Care
  • Tourism
  • Hotels, Gaming
  • Economic Development
  • Community Development
  • Energy
  • Manufacturing
  • Rural Development

These groups will come together to give specific information on how to move Louisiana forward.

Berthelot will be a part of today's virtual meeting of the Resilient Louisiana Commission Hospitality/Tourism Task Force.
