The Lafayette Police Department is hosting their 3rd Annual First Responders Basketball Tournament this Saturday at the Lafayette Christian Academy Sportsplex.

The tournament will feature local police, sheriff and fire departments competing to raise funds for 2 Lafayette firefighters battling cancer: Richard LeBlanc and Mitchell Perrodin. Perrodin,  a 25-year veteran of the Lafayette Fire Department, was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma in October of last year. Captain Richard LeBlanc was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and has been a Lafayette Firefighter for over 18 years.

All proceeds from the event will go to these firefighters' families.

The event begins at 9 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the LCA Sportsplex, 220 Stone Avenue, Lafayette, 70507.

Last year's event raised money for the family of fallen officer Michael Middlebrook, who was killed in the line of duty.

To make a donation or to get more information about the event, call Officer Sam with the Lafayette Police Department at 337-580-1286.
