Lafayette’s First Medical Marijuana Pharmacy Opens Today
After years of legal wrangling, votes, debates, and discussions, medical marijuana is finally a reality in Lafayette as of today. The Apothecary Shoppe received their first shipments of medical marijuana yesterday and they plan on seeing their first patients today.
According to state law, the following conditions may be treated with medical marijuana:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Chronic Intractable Pain
- Chrohn’s Disease
- Epilepsy/Seizure Disorders
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Spasticity/Severe Muscle Spasms
- Wasting Syndrome/Cachexia
That list was compiled in a story reported by KLFY television.
In order for a patient to receive medical marijuana, they must first be seen by a licensed medical marijuana physician. That doctor must then recommend the patient and the dosage for treatment with the drug.
Medical marijuana is not covered by insurance and costs range from $99 to $200 depending on the prescription. Many patients and doctors believe the use of marijuana is a reasonable alternative to narcotics such as opioids.
