When there are heavy rains in Lake Arthur residents have to worry about flooding on the Mermentau River, and those flooding concerns will continue this week as the town is waiting for the river to crest later today.

Last week some areas of Acadiana received ten inches of rain.

Mayor Robert Bertrand told KATC he is hoping state government officials can help the drainage situation on the Mermentau because they face flooding concerns each time their is heavy flash flooding in their area.

It will likely take several more days for the river level to come down.
