Lane Kiffin Brings Lil Wayne, Boosie To LSU Tiger Walk
Lane Kiffin has only coached a couple of games at LSU, but the Tigers' new head coach certainly appears to understand one thing about Baton Rouge.
Winning matters, but putting on a show doesn't hurt either.
Kiffin led LSU down Victory Hill Saturday ahead of the No. 8 Tigers' matchup against Louisiana Tech, and he had some serious Louisiana star power walking alongside him.
New Orleans rap superstar Lil Wayne and Baton Rouge's own Boosie Badazz joined Kiffin for the traditional walk into Tiger Stadium. Former LSU star and Super Bowl champion Tyrann Mathieu was also part of the group.
Lil Wayne And Boosie Join Lane Kiffin At LSU
Fans packed the route as Kiffin and the Tigers made their way toward Death Valley, but it was hard to miss the celebrities mixed into the crowd.
Lil Wayne walked alongside Kiffin wearing a green jacket and sunglasses, while Boosie represented his signature Louisiana style with his chains and bandana.
And the Boosie appearance didn't end at Victory Hill.
Once inside Tiger Stadium, Boosie appeared on the video board rapping along to his Baton Rouge anthem "Set It Off," giving the crowd another reason to get loud before the Tigers went to work against Louisiana Tech.
Lane Kiffin's LSU Entrances Are Becoming An Event
At this point, it may be worth paying attention to who shows up with Kiffin every Saturday.
For his LSU debut against Clemson, Kiffin's trip down Victory Hill included Louisiana comedian Theo Von, former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne and model Brooks Nader. The crowd was so large that longtime LSU communications director Michael Bonnette said he had never seen anything like it.
Kiffin himself compared the atmosphere to Mardi Gras.
LSU then backed up all that pregame hype with a dominant 51-10 victory over Clemson, piling up 644 yards of offense in Kiffin's debut.
One week later, the celebrity guest list somehow got even more Louisiana.
Lane Kiffin Seems To Understand LSU Culture
There has always been more to a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium than what happens between the sidelines.
The tailgating, music, celebrities, former players and pageantry surrounding LSU football are part of what makes Baton Rouge one of the most recognizable environments in college football.
Kiffin appears to be leaning all the way into it.
Bringing two of Louisiana's most recognizable hip-hop stars down Victory Hill alongside one of LSU's most beloved former players feels less like a random celebrity appearance and more like Kiffin understanding the assignment.
Last week, it was Theo Von and Livvy Dunne.
This week, Lil Wayne, Boosie Badazz and the Honey Badger.
If this keeps up, LSU fans may start wondering who Lane Kiffin is bringing down Victory Hill next.
