Lil Nas X's recording-breaking single "Old Town Road (Remix)" has been dominating the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a record-tying amount of time. It may dominate at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards next month as well. The Georgia rapper and the visual for his smash are up for eight awards at the upcoming show.

The nominees were announced on Tuesday (July 23) and the rap newcomer leads the pack for hip-hop artists and is only behind pop superstars Taylor Swift (10), Ariana Grande (10) and Billie Eilish (nine). X holds nominations in the categories Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Art Direction.

The "Panini" rapper dropped the official video for his "Old Town Road (Remix)" featuring Billy Ray Cyrus back in May. The visual featured cameos from Chris Rock, Vince Staples, Rico Nasty, Diplo and social media star HaHa Davis. The song itself is another week atop the Billboard Hot 100 away from breaking the all-time record, after tying Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's "Despacito," and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" with 16 weeks at No. 1.

XXL recently spoke with Lil Wayne, who offered some advice to Lil Nas X about staying on top in the music biz.

"Stay focused," Tunechi said. "When you break that record, make sure it’s not a record to you. Make sure you don’t even realize it nor recognize it at all. Put that in your head that someone else broke that record and you want to break their record. Plain and simple. Because I can’t even tell you if I was No. 1 on the charts because it never mattered. The only thing that ever should matter, bro, is your next song."

Other hip-hop artists with multiple 2019 MTV Video Music Awards nominations include Drake, Cardi B and Anderson .Paak. The award show airs on Aug. 26, 2019.
