The late rapper Lil Peep is finally getting the collaboration he always wanted. “I’ve Been Waiting,” Peep’s new collaboration with iLoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy, is proof that dreams actually do come true.

On the surprisingly upbeat track about heartach, the late artist can be heard crooning alongside two of his biggest inspirations, as well as a few guitar riffs. ILoveMakonnen, IIVI, Louis Bell, Brian Lee and Brenton Duvall produced the song.

“Break my heart,” the Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 artist sings. “But don’t tell me I’m not doing fine/'Cause I’m doing fine/Let me go, I’m spending time/Not doing fine, but I’m doing fine.”

Back in 2017, during an interview with XXL for The Break, Lil Peep revealed that both iLoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy were artists he grew up listening to. “One of my favorite hip-hop artists is Makonnen," Peep shared. "One of my favorite bands is Fall Out Boy. You put those two together and that’s Lil Peep.”

Makonnen, who was previously part of two other Lil Peep collaborations, "Falling Down" and "Sunlight on Your Skin,“ got on the phone with XXL to speak about how the song came together. He connected the necessary dots for one of Peep’s dream collaborations to become a reality.

"It definitely means a lot to get this done and for them [Fall Out Boy] to be apart of something he was very close to," Makonnen says. "This was one of his favorite records ever.”

Following the untimely death of Peep, born Gustav Elijah Åhr, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz reached out to Makonnen, sending over his condolences. The exchange led to the “Tuesday" artist telling the rock star that his group had been a major influence for Peep and that it would be “an honor if we could all get on a track together.”

“I sent them the track,” recalls Makonnen. “They fucked with it and they liked it and dug it a lot. They added some great parts to it.”

Makonnen says working with Lil Peep, who recently scored his highest-charting single with the XXXTentacion-assisted “Falling Down,” was “inspiring.” “My favorite part about working with Peep is there’s never a lack of creativity,” Makonnen admits. “There’s no creative blocks. We complement each other’s style very well.”
