If you think gasoline is the most expensive liquid you use everyday—think again.

When it comes to complaining about things we have to pay for, gas prices are always part of the conversation. To be fair to the oil companies, there is a very complicated process that has to take place before we see the gasoline at the pump.

Oil must be sucked out of the ground, sometimes from war zones or deep beneath oceans. The drills now bend and dig sideways through as much as 7 miles of earth. What they discover must be pumped through billion-dollar pipelines and often put in monstrously expensive tankers to ship across the ocean.

Then it’s refined into several types of gasoline, transported in trucks that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Finally, your local gas station must spend a fortune on safety devices to make sure we don’t blow ourselves up while filling the tank.

A lot of folks in our area don't mind paying a little extra being that so many depend on the oilfield to support their families—but when the price per gallon gets to a point where we have to start making life decisions, everyone feels the pain at the pump.

Recently, gas prices have dropped—but even at an average of $2 per gallon, when it comes to liquids you use everyday, gasoline is probably the cheapest.

I know that sounds crazy (even I didn't want to believe it at first) but the folks at AEI broke down in a list form that puts it all in perspective.

Now I know some of these liquids could last a lot longer than a gallon of gas, but the ROI on gasoline alone trumps everything else on this list—unless of course you have figured out a way to commute to and from work using only windex, apple juice, or pancake syrup.

Another hat tip to oil is that some of the liquids listed can't be made without it.

So, the next time you hear anyone complaining about gas prices, just share this link!
