Louisiana's Ragin Cajun football team dropped a road game on Saturday night, falling to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 43-14, in non-conference action in Ruston, Louisiana.

The loss, in the 87th all-time meeting between the two schools, marks the eighth-consecutive game that Louisiana has lost to Louisiana Tech in head-to-head play, having not have captured a win over the Bulldogs since 1996.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, scoring on the initial possession of the game, when Jalen Nixon hooked-up with Elijah McGuire on a 49-yard pass, catch, and touchdown run, capping off a 5-play, 75-yard drive, to give them a 7-0 lead at the 13:06 mark of the first quarter.

Louisiana Tech answered right back on their first drive of the game, when Jeff Driskel hit Trent Taylor with an 8-yard touchdown pass, completing an 11-play, 75-yard drive, to even the game, 7-7, at the 8:39 mark of the first frame.

The Bulldogs grabbed their first lead of the game at the 12:36 mark of the second quarter, when Driskel got into the end zone following a 19-yard touchdown run, ending a 10-play, 96-yard drive, to take a 14-7 advantage.

The Bulldogs added a safety at the 11:09 mark of the second quarter, after Paul Turner blocked a Steven Coutts in the end zone, to extend their lead to 16-7.

Louisiana Tech put three more points on the board at the 7:00 mark of the second period, when Jonathan Barns booted through a long 50-yard field goal, culminating a short 4-play, 22-yard, to make it 19-7.

The Bulldogs continued to put the pressure on UL late in the first half, when Barns made good on a 41-yard field goal with only :17 remaining in the half, putting the exclamation mark on a 10-play, 58-yard drive, to extend their lead to 22-7.

The Louisiana Tech defense then got into the act, when Bryson Abraham intercepted an errant Nixon pass on the last play of the half, and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bulldogs 29-unanswered points to end the half, and a 29-7 lead as the two team headed to their respective locker rooms for halftime.

Louisiana Tech outgained Louisiana, in terms of total yards in the first half, 244-141, including a 153-98 advantage in passing yards, as well as an 91-43 edge in the rushing department.

Driskel led the way for the Bulldogs in the first half, completing 12-of-20 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another 48 yards on 5 carries, including a touchdown.

Nixon paced the Cajuns in the first half, completing 11-of-18 passes for 98 yards, to go along with a touchdown and an interception.

The Bulldogs continued their onslaught by scoring on their first drive of the second half, when Driskel connected with Marcus Gaines on a 72-yard touchdown pass, capping off a 3-play, 77-yard drive, giving them 36-unanswered points, and a 36-7 lead at the 13:26 mark of the third quarter.

The Cajuns finally broke the string with 1:23 left in the third quarter, when Nixon ran in 5-yard touchdown, completing a 3-play, 21-yard drive, to trim the deficit to 36-14.

Louisiana Tech put the game completely away at the 7:09 mark of the fourth, when Kenneth Dixon scored on a 6-yard touchdown run, ending an 8-play, 73-yard drive, to increased the advantage to 43-14, a lead that would hold up the rest of the way, as the Bulldogs went on to he 29-point win.

Louisiana Tech outgained Louisiana, in terms of total yards, 428-331, including a 290-182 advantage in passing yards, while finished with a 149-138 in rushing yards.

Driskel paved the way for the Bulldogs, competing 20-of-33 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns, while Dxion accumulated 59 rushing yards, along with a touchdown, on 22 carries.

In a losing cause for the Cajuns, Nixon completed 17-off-33 passes for 161 yards, to go along with a touchdown and an interception, while McGuire provided 84 rushing yards on 12 carries.

With the victory, Louisiana Tech improved to 3-2, while Louisiana fell to 1-3.

The Cajuns return to action next Saturday, when they play host to the Texas St. Bobcats in their 2015 Sun Belt Conference opener.
