BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana authorities say two children were able to escape a shooting in which their mother's ex-boyfriend killed her, her grandmother and her current boyfriend.

WAFB reports the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office says 48-year-old Michael Lee Wade shot 35-year-old Christa Sudduth; her grandmother, 72-year old Ruby White; and Sudduth's boyfriend, 32-year-old Ivy Frank.

Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says Sudduth's 14-year-old son called 911 Wednesday night to report a shooting. Authorities say he and his 12-year-old brother then hid behind their house until police arrived.

The boys told police they recognized the man as their mother's ex-boyfriend and identified Wade and gave a description of his car.

Police charged Wade with three counts of first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. It's unclear whether he has an attorney who could comment.
