A report out of St. Helena Parish says a woman who was walking along the highway was suddenly attacked and mauled by a pack of up to eight dogs.

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Department was contacted by someone who stopped to help the woman after noticing she was injured.

Knoe.com reports "Based on statements provided by the victim, investigators learned as the woman was walking on Highway 449 the pack of dogs exited a residence and attacked her in the roadway. She was then pulled into a ditch by the dogs and further mauled."

The dogs have reportedly been surrendered to the Tangi Humane Society.

The victim is currently recovering at a hospital in Hammond.
