When your nickname is Sportsman's Paradise it's safe to assume that camping and the outdoor lifestyle would be something you'd embrace. And for residents of Louisiana, we do love our life outdoors. Granted, we don't really enjoy it as much during times of heat advisories as we do during say gumbo weather but we still find a way to beat the heat and get out and enjoy the simpler things in life.

I guess I should have put the words "simple things" in quotes especially when it comes to camping in Louisiana's great outdoors. Most of our state parks and campgrounds have taken into consideration the degrees to which people like to camp. Some people are "blankets on the ground" with barely a tent. Others camp in pull-behind pop-up campers or small trailers. Still, others have full-blown motorcoaches that they travel about the state in. There are also the glampers too.

I'd probably fall into the "glamper" category. I like to stay in cabins that have furniture and air conditioning. And many of Louisiana's campgrounds and state parks now feature sites like that. Of course, they have cabins that don't come with all the extras too. Again, it's your camping trip and you've got to make it work for you and your family.

The website Trips to Discover recently published a compilation of what they are calling the Most Beautiful Camp Grounds in every state. They have made their choices and given their reasons. Before we reveal their choice for Louisiana's most beautiful campground, let's take a look at some of our neighbors.

In Alabama, Trips to Discover liked Gulf State Park Campground in Gulf Shores. In Mississippi, the website opted for Tishomingo State Park Campground. It's in the northeast corner of the state in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

The Arkansas choice by Trips to Discover was Cove Lake Recreation Area and Campground in Paris Arkansas. It's in the shadows of Mount Magazine in the northwest corner of the state and offers a lot of watersports and other amenities too.  Meanwhile in Texas, you're going to have to head west, I mean way west to the Big Bend National Park and the Chisos Basin Campground.

So, what is Louisiana's most beautiful campground? Well, it's just a few hours east of Acadiana in Mandeville. It's Fountainbleu State Park Campground. The campground is surrounded on three sides by water and boasts a really nice beach too. There are premium campsites and glamping campsites available. There is also a water playground, a hiking trail, and a nature trail to explore as well.

Unfortunately, some of the facilities at Fountainbleu State Park are still being repaired following damage that was inflicted by Hurricane Ida in 2021. The campgrounds have been reopened since September of 2021 but not all of the cabins have been completely restored and repaired.

So, as you make plans to while away these dog days of summer and you're looking for something a little different to do with your family. You might want to consider Louisiana's most beautiful campground or some of the others that made the list. Of course, you might want to wait for the temperatures to cool off just a bit as well, too.
