If you know or love an LSU baseball fan, give them a little extra space this morning. They had a long night. The game between Mississippi State and LSU didn't end until just after 3 am. The final score was Mississippi State 6 and LSU 5 in a game that took 17 innings to complete.

After being tied at four runs apiece the Tigers finally got the better of the Bulldogs in the top of the 16th inning to make the score 5 to 4. It was the Tigers first lead of the game. Which is pretty impressive when you consider they were down 4 to nothing earlier in the contest.

The Tiger jubilation was very short lived because Mississippi State tied the game up in the bottom of the inning. That made the score 5 to 5 and sent the game into its 17th inning and seventh hour of on-field play.

The Tigers went quietly in the top of the 17th but some costly miscues involving mishandled pitches and a wild pitch allowed the Bulldogs to get a man in scoring position. Then a little timely hitting allowed State to push the winning run across the plate to claim at 6 to 5 victory.

The Tiger baseball team will have only a few hours to regroup as they will be due back on the diamond in Hoover Alabama around Noon to face Auburn. The actual start time of that game might fluctuate depending on how long it takes Ole Miss and Texas A&M to finish their game which is scheduled to start at 9:30 Louisiana time.
