I really ramp up my interest in college baseball when the NCAA Tournament rolls around. The rest of the season there are just too many games for my short attention span to latch on to. Now, we are in the midst of the Baton Rouge regional and the LSU Tigers sure know how to keep me interested.

On Friday I, like a lot of Tiger fans, was stunned when Texas Southern jumped out to an early lead. I wasn't nervous. Okay, I was nervous. I believe for every good streak a team can have there is an equal and opposite bad streak waiting to happen. The Tigers have been red hot the past few weeks and I thought "Oh Lord, not now".

Then the LSU bats woke up and the game ended the way most of us figured it would. LSU had a really large number. Texas Southern had a smaller number but had earned my respect and the respect of many other college baseball fans.

Yesterday, Saturday night, we all knew Southeastern Louisiana was really good. They have been equal to or better than the Ragin Cajuns and the Tigers at various points throughout the season. I expected a good game.

I did not expect LSU to give up 5 runs in the first two innings. I would have probably gone through about seven pitchers before the third but there is a reason Paul Mainieri is the skipper and I am the Gilligan in the stands. He stuck with Alex Lange and Lange settled down and the LSU bats woke up.

Despite being down after two innings the Tigers defeated Southeastern by a score of 11-6. Yeah, the Tiger bats woke up that much.

Southeastern and Rice will play this afternoon at 3 PM Louisiana time. That is assuming the rain and lightning don't get in the way. LSU will take on the winner of that game at 8 PM. If the Tigers win it will be Super Regional time. Should they lose there will be a final game on Monday.
