LSU Students Sing ‘Rain Themed’ Songs During Lightning Delay

(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - Prior to the LSU-Cmesón football game last Saturday night at Tiger Stadium, a storng thunderstorm swept through the campus and forced officials to delay the game.

With lightning near the stadium on LSU's campus, officials quickly called a lightning delay and did not allow the teams to begin warm-ups for the 6:45 pm kickoff on ABC.

As we entered the stadium at approximately 4:45 pm, the scoreboards and televisions displayed the lightning delay message, and LSU encouraged everyone in the stadium to seek shelter.

After we got something to eat in the stadium, we went to our seats in the Stadium Club, where an overhang protected us from the elements.

We watched as the storm approached the stadium, and you could see and hear the lightning and thunder nearby, but even that wouldn't scare off those in the student section.

As the torrential rains fell in Tiger Stadium, and yes, it does sometimes rain in Tiger Stadium, the students never moved, and it was as if the rain fueled their excitement for the first game of the year in "Death Valley."

Songs Played During LSU Lightning Delay

While many fans were seeking shelter elsewhere, thousands of students remained put, and the DJ in the stadium started to play rain-themed songs like "Purple Rain," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain", "Raining Men," and many more.

With nothing else to do in the rain-soaked bleachers, the students started singing and dancing to every song played over the sound system, and I thought it was great.

I've been going to LSU football games since I was six years old, and I have seen some fantastic moments in Tiger Stadium, and watching these students enjoy the rain and sing along to some classics ranks up there in my personal experiences.

LSU Students Sing in The Rain

Here are LSU students making the most of the conditions in Tiger Stadium before kickoff with Clemson, and let's just say they had plenty of time to entertain themselves before the game, as delays forced officials to push kickoff back nearly 2.5 hours.

LSU defeated Clemson convincingly 51-10 to start their 2026-27 football season.

Here are the students singing "Purple Rain" as rain falls over the stadium and the lights flash purple.
