Dominic Rotunno, a student at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has recently gained significant attention on TikTok for his amusing take on attempting to pronounce, while actually mispronouncing, Louisiana words. The viral video of Dominic's professor helping him humorously navigate a list of tricky pronunciations of local names and phrases, has Louisiana natives laughing across the state.

We'd be lying if we said some of these words didn't still trip us up and make us question ourselves even though we were born and raised in The Boot.

In the video, Rotunno, a proud New Yorker from Buffalo, playfully attempts to say words and names that often perplex outsiders. He starts with 'Fais Do Do', which tends to trip up those unfamiliar with the local dialect. His professor lets him attempt each word or phrase first before chiming in with the way locals actually pronounce it.

It's especially funny to watch this because none of the words on the list are pronounced how they are spelled. After each time he is corrected he looks hilariously perplexed and in utter disbelief, especially for words like 'Pirogue' and 'Tchoupitoulas'. People in the comments have a lot to say and even argue that his professor doesn't even get some of the pronunciations and meanings 100% correct.

While many viewers may never master the intricacies of Louisiana pronunciation, Rotunno's viral TikTok has encouraged everyone to embrace the uniqueness of the state's language, fostering a sense of community through humor and shared linguistic quirks that make Louisiana the charming and one-of-a-kind place it is.

He eventually did a follow-up video with more Louisiana words and we would argue that this second list is even tougher than the first.
