What began as a man trying to help a fellow human being ended with a wild ride and an arrest.

I can't even imagine what people driving in traffic yesterday must have seen yesterday. They witnessed this vehicle with a trailer attached weaving in and out of traffic.

All of this started to unfold at around 6 o'clock on Tuesday evening after the victim picked up a man in Maurice he said he just needed a ride to the Acadiana Mall. They get to the mall, and this suspect pulled out a knife. He carjacked this man's vehicle and trailer! The suspect, 27-year-old Daryion Bonnet, was eventually arrested.

Corporal Bridgette Dugas says Bonnet started driving wildly down Ambassador Caffery. Bonnet hit multiple vehicles in his wild ride done Ambassador. Dugas says there were five minor crashes. I can only imagine how mad I would be if this man had hit my vehicle.

Eyewitnesses on social media described the wild scene, including many whose vehicles were hit on the street and in parking lots throughout the chase.

I was right there too! I saw when he hit the first few cars on ambassador and kaliste saloom. He jumped that concrete barrier and they trailer hitch started dragging! Scary!

Bonnet was finally stopped at a business in the 3700 block of Ambassador Caffery, and the guy took off on foot. He was captured pretty quickly after that.

Dugas says Bonnet was charged with the following:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Two counts of Unauthorized Use of a movable
  • Five counts of Hit and Run
  • Aggravated Flight
  • Resisting an Officer
  • Reckless Operation
