Florida Gators Withdraw Scholarship From Star High School QB Who Rapped the N-Word on Camera
A four-star high school quarterback who committed to play football for the Florida Gators had his scholarship offer yanked after he used a racial slur in a video on social media.
Marcus Stokes is a standout quarterback at Nease High School located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL who was looking forward to playing for former Louisiana head football coach Billy Napier in Gainesville next year.
Stokes committed to the Florida Gators back on July 7, but over the weekend, it was reported that the university pulled his scholarship offer in the wake of a video surfacing where the young quarterback was seen rapping the "N"-word along to a song heard playing in the background.
On Sunday, Stokes addressed the incident on social media and apologized for his actions.
The four-star recruit accepted full responsibility, stating that he respected the University of Florida's decision to withdraw his scholarship and that his intention was never to hurt anybody, regardless of the fact that he was just "going along with a song."
My intention was never to hurt anybody and I recognize that even when going along with a song, my words still carry a lot of weight. I will strive to be better and to become the best version of myself on and off the field.
Neither Billy Napier nor Florida has commented on the issue due to the fact that the university is not allowed to make public statements about recruiting prospects until they have signed with the school per NCAA rules.
