Some say this is the true kickoff of Carnival season in Lafayette.

Although many of the big Mardi Gras balls have already come and gone, it doesn't really feel like Mardi Gras in Lafayette until we see the barricades come out. Earlier today, our media partners at KATC dropped a video that's sure to make any Mardi Gras reveler excited.

Public Works have begun placing some of the barricades out today, and by week's end, there will be over 500 barricades along the entire four-mile parade route in time for Rio to roll this coming Saturday night.

The barricades aren't moved into the road just yet, but when they are moved motorists are reminded to drive with caution.

Happy Mardi Gras!
