Master P’s ‘King Of The South’ Auditions Drew Hundreds of People [VIDEO]
Master P held auditions for his biopic, King of the South, in his hometown of New Orleans on Tuesday (April 4). The event drew hundreds of local thespians hoping to get their big break in the rap mogul’s film.
“We brought Hollywood to New Orleans,” said Master P in a press release. “There’s a lot of untapped talent that will get discovered. I was excited to see the work ethic of these actors and the passion that they have for their craft.”
Judging by the videos above and below, there were several people who could be featured in the movie. One man came dressed in an all-white Dickies outfit and matching sneakers to channel Master P's 1996 Ice Cream Man album cover.
Master P, along with Uptown Group Pictures, plans to shoot his King of the South movie this summer. The film will star Queen Latifah, who will play his mother, along with Wendell Pierce of The Wire fame.
The movie will detail the rise of Percy “Master P” Miller and how he became one of the biggest names in hip-hop with his independent label No Limit Records. The veteran rap mogul gave a voice to Southern hip-hop and brought new superstars into the game including Mystikal, Mia X, Silkk the Shocker and more.
“The movie is not gonna be a shoot-em-up movie. It’s going to be a rags-to-riches story," said Master P about the biopic. "It’s going to be a love story. It’s going to be somebody making it out of poverty. That’s what I want the world to see.”
