Meek Mill Denied Entry to Hotel, Threatened With Arrest

UPDATE: Two days after Meek Mill was denied entry into The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas without explanation, TMZ is reporting sources within the hotel/casino tell them Meek had previously gotten into a fight with security at the establishment, which caused him to be red-flagged.

Meek previously claimed he'd only been to the casino once, for a Jay-Z party, without incident. Meek's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, is also denying the altercation claims. "The racist hole that they [Cosmopolitan] have dug for themselves has just gotten deeper," he said in a statement on Monday (May 27). "Yesterday, when this incident unfolded, the chief security guard could not articulate a reason why Meek was denied entry and threatened with arrest. They've now come up with some fabricated claim through an anonymous source that Meek was involved in a fight on their property."

He continued, "Meek Mill was never involved in a fight on their property, ever and I challenge the Cosmopolitan to produce a video of such altercation or a contemporaneous incident report. The legal case against the Cosmopolitan just got stronger."

Meek Mill's Memorial Day Weekend got off on a bad note. The rapper was reportedly denied entry into The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas and threatened with arrest for reasons he says only have to do with his occupation and race.

On Saturday afternoon (May 25), Meek shared video on Instagram of himself sitting in his car outside the hotel/casino talking to the security staff.

"How can you tell me I'ma be locked up for trespassing?" Meek questions.

"You are on private property," one of the hotel staff responds. "This time, with the information we have, we are refusing to do business with you. We have the right to do that."

Throughout the video, the "Going Bad" rapper maintains his cool and eventually tells his team "We out." In the caption of the video, Meek spelled out what he thought was the real reason for being banned.

"Cosmopolitan hotel/casino going to extreme racist levels to keep too many black entertainers and black people," Meek started. "They said they gone lock me up.. I’m like for what I’ve been once to a party with jayz ..... Some of these casinos have a bunch of Tatics to keep the level of blacks down .... but love to take our money!!!! This happens to a lot of black entertainers not just me either!! I felt crazy being put out by these white men for no reason!"

According to TMZ, Meek's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, has reached out to The Cosmo and demanded an apology be issued to his client after alleging that there is a systematic plot in place to keep Blacks out of the hotel.

"We have learned that the Cosmopolitan maintains a list of African American recording artists who should be denied access for no other reason than than their culture and skin color," the letter reads. "Such course of conduct constitutes discrimination per se, in violation of state and federal law, and exposes you to significant monetary damages."

It continues, "We urge you to promptly issue an apology to Mr. Williams and grant him immediate access. In the event you fail to heed this one and only warning, we intend to pursue all legal recourse against you."

The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas has responded to XXL's request for comment with the following statement: “As a matter of company policy, we do not comment on legal matters. Our guests’ safety and security always remains our top priority.”
