Mike Posner Says Justin Bieber’s ‘Believe’ Will Send Pop Artists ‘Back to the Drawing Board’

Mike Posner, who co-wrote Justin Bieber‘s hoppin’ and poppin’ ‘Boyfriend,’ made a huge statement about ‘Believe,’ the album on which ‘BF’ will live. Posner doesn’t merely ‘Believe’ the album is the next step in The Biebs’ career. He is convinced that it will change pop music we know it, forcing the teen’s peers to level the genre and well, start over.

“He’s kind of bringing soul back, and rhythm and blues back and definitely hip-hop into his music,” Posner told MTV. “I’m really excited to see how it’s going to change the landscape, and I know a lot of artists are going to have to go back to the drawing board.”

Those are big words, but if we were judging from the butter smooth groove of ‘Boyfriend,’ the album has the chops to back that statement up. The verdict, according to Posner, is that JB is a game changer.

Posner went a little more in depth when describing ‘Believe,’ saying, “I think our goal was to make something that me and my friends could listen to in the car. Think we’ve all known Justin since he was 13, and that’s not the kid I was in the studio with anymore.”

He was quick to point out that The Biebs is 18. He rides skateboards with Weezy. He listens to hip-hop and in Posner’s estimation, he is “a really cool kid. He’s not like a corny guy.”

Given Bieber’s coolness, Posner knew they had to make a record that was as flawless as possible and that presents the new and improved Justin Bieber. “I wanted to make something that reflected who he is now and who he is going to continue to be,” Posner said. “We’re still working more on the project and it sounds really incredible. I think people have been waiting [for] when he’s going to turn that corner, and the time is now.”

What we’re taking away from Posner’s comments is this: Justin Bieber is not afraid to make a sharp turn to the left and it should reap plenty of rewards.
