On December 7, 1941, a surprise military attack was carried out by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service upon the United States at the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii.

When the smoke cleared, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded according to wikipedia.com.

As local attorney Kaliste Saloom stated on Facebook earlier today (12/07/21), many people locally may not realize that in the attack, 26 sailors from Louisiana were killed.

Mr. Saloom, a incredibly knowledgeable WWII buff should know. His father, the late Judge Kaliste Saloom, was a WWII veteran.

In a Facebook post that begins "80 years ago today, this Date in Infamy...", Mr. Saloom pays tribute to a Lafayette sailor "Felix Ducrest and 25 other Louisianians who died on the USS Arizona that day."
