New Iberia Storm Debris Pickup Guidelines

The City of New Iberia is already starting storm debris pickup services and has released a few guidelines for residents to follow to make sure things go smoothly.

City officials say the storm debris pickup will begin in the areas hardest hit by Tropic Storm Barry.

To ensure your debris pickup doesn't hit any snags, the City is asking that you keep your debris piles away from mailboxes, fire hydrants, water meters, electrical lines, trees, poles, structures, and fences.

Contractors will only pick up storm debris they can get to without needing to go onto private property.

What exactly is being picked up?

"The following are a list of categories that debris should be divided into for pickup:

Vegetative Debris: Leaves, logs, plants, tree branches.

Construction and Demolition Debris: Building materials, carpet, drywall, lumber, and plumbing.

Mixed Debris: Furniture, clothes, mattresses, computers, radios, stereos, televisions, and other devices with a cord.

Appliances & White Goods - Air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and water heaters.

The following debris WILL NOT be picked up by debris contractors:

Normal Household Trash: Normal household trash will not be picked up with debris as part of this program. You should continue to follow your normal garbage schedule.
