New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says that, starting Aug. 1, officers in uniform will have to cover up any of their tattoos.

According The Times-Picayune the new policy will require officers with any tattoos on their arms to wear long-sleeved shirts. If any officer has a tattooed neck, he or she will have to cover the ink with makeup!!

N.O.P.D. say that the purpose of this policy is to make police officers look more "professional." As odd as this policy may seem to you, its rather common in other police departments around the country and even more common in other professional fields.

What do you think of this policy? Is it a form of discrimination, or does the department have the right to protect the image of the shield?
