New Video Surfaces as Witnesses Recount How Montgomery Riverfront Brawl Started

A shocking incident that involved a group of men attacking a dock worker in Alabama captured the nation's attention after videos of the brawl went viral on social media.

The confrontation that has been heavily circulating on social media unfolded on Saturday evening near Montgomery Riverfront Park after a pontoon boat reportedly blocked an area where a riverboat was trying to park.

According to reports by WFSA's Jasmine Williams, the Montgomery Police Department received a disturbance call around 7 p.m. on Saturday in the 200 block of Coosa Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a large group of individuals engaged in a physical altercation. Several individuals were detained, and the police spokesperson stated that pending charges were under consideration.

As videos of the incident surfaced on social media platforms, it became evident that the brawl had escalated along racial lines. Videos and reposts have been posted on every social media platform imaginable, racking up millions of views. In a new clip, a woman on a riverboat can be heard discussing a dispute over a parking space at the dock.

The video shows a Black man, believed to be a dock worker, near a pontoon boat parked at the dock. The situation intensifies as a shirtless white man in gray shorts confronts the Black man, followed by another shirtless white man in red shorts rushing towards them. As the Black man tries to explain the situation, tensions escalate, leading to physical altercations involving multiple people.

Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed promptly responded to the incident, expressing his disappointment and assuring the public that justice would be served. He emphasized that violent actions would not be tolerated in the community, and those responsible would be held accountable.

The incident took a dramatic turn when a 16-year-old named Aaren bravely jumped off a riverboat and swam to the aid of the Black dock worker. The young man's actions were praised by Makina Lashea, who identified herself as Aaren's publicist, describing him as a courageous individual who exemplified admirable values.

In connection with the brawl, the police have issued four active warrants, and they are currently reviewing additional video footage to identify any other individuals involved. The incident has sparked discussions about racial tensions and the need to address violence in the community.

As authorities continue their investigation, the identities of those involved in the brawl have not been released. The Montgomery Police Department and local authorities have stated they are ensuring a thorough investigation to hold all responsible parties accountable for their actions.

Bystanders who were on the riverboat at the time of the altercation have come forward to recount their experiences. Christa Owen, 47, who was aboard the riverboat with her family, stated, "What was hard is we were all on the boat and witnessing our poor crewman being attacked by these guys, and we couldn't do anything about it." She added, "It was really difficult to watch, and, like I said, we felt helpless because we were forced to be spectators."

According to WFSA, a press conference will be held on Tuesday to provide more information.
