There Will Be No Mardi Gras Parades Permitted In New Orleans In 2021
According to Mayor LaToya Cantrell's page on the city website, Mardi Gras parades will not be permitted to roll in NOLA.
Even though Cantrell hasn't spoken publicly on the issue, she addressed it in the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section of the New Orleans city website.
Parades of any kind will not be permitted this year because large gatherings have proven to be super spreader events of the COVID-19 virus.
Parades are the essence of Mardi Gras in New Orleans so it's hard to imagine how other events will be affected by this new report, but we will definitely keep you updated on this developing story as reactions are already pouring in.
Also, for what it's worth, I'm shocked (read: not shocked) that Cantrell wouldn't have held an official press conference to announce this and clarify her reasoning rather than just burying it within a section of FAQs on a website.
A tweet from Jeff Duncan shares the same sentiment.
While the news may not sit well with most folks, it's hard to argue against her decision being that Mardi Gras was one of the biggest super spreader events that sparked the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in America.
Check out the FAQs here and follow this story for updated details as I'm sure we'll hear more on this through the days and weeks to come.
