As more and more Mardi Gras krewes are changing plans and cancelling festivities for 2021, it's nice to know that the show will go on for some hardcore carnival lovers in the Big Easy. Since New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell announced earlier this year that parades will not be allowed to roll during Mardi Gras 2021, krewes and organizations are scrambling to keep the party going, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

One of the most unique Mardi Gras krewes in NOLA is the 900 member Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, who are known for their fun-loving activities and amazing science fiction inspired costumes. Krewe members tell Offbeat Magazine that they will embark on their 11th annual carnival season adventure in 2021 with a theme called "Don't Panic! The Hitchhikers Guide to the New Reality - Volume One".

The "adventure" is set to begin on January 23 with an online PDF Guide that will map out businesses and homes throughout the city that will participate in sort of a scavenger hunt. According to Offbeat, each station will represent a different chapter in the guide, and beautiful handmade throws can be collected, and fabulous costumes of the season can be viewed. All within socially distant guidelines, of course.

The krewe goes on to say that if members or the public do not come in costume, or abide by the socially distant rules, they cannot collect the prized throws. There will also be other fabulous ways for carnival revelers to participate, and considering how different this upcoming Mardi Gras will be, the Krewe of Chewbacchus is really trying  hard to make sure that their festivities are safe, and fun for all. More details will be forthcoming, but you can read about all the fun in this issue of OffBeat.
