Officials at Fort Polk say an incident during a training exercise early Wednesday morning has left an Army Reservist dead and four members of the Nevada National Guard injured. The crash involving a rollover of a military vehicle happened about 3 am Wednesday morning during a training exercise.

The four injured guardsmen are reported to be a part of the 72nd Military Police Company, Nevada Army National Guard, in Las Vegas. Two of the guardsmen are being treated at a nearby military hospital. None of the injuries sustained by the guardsmen are thought to be life-threatening.

KPLC Television reported these comments from  Brig. Gen. William Burks, Nevada National Guard adjutant general:

Safety is paramount in all that we do. We train as we fight and unfortunately, accidents occur during realistic training in dynamic environments. Our sympathies go out to the family of the individual that was killed. We are closely monitoring this situation and hope for a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

The name of the deceased and the names of the injured have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Officials at Fort Polk and the Joint Readiness Training Center say their investigation into the crash is ongoing.
