One Dead, Another Critical In Opelousas Shooting Investigation
Another shooting investigation is unfolding in Opelousas after police confirmed one victim died and another remains in critical condition following gunfire on West Bellevue Street Tuesday evening. Detectives are still working the scene and asking anyone with information to come forward.
One Person Dead After Opelousas Shooting
The Opelousas Police Department is investigating another shooting after two people were injured Tuesday in the 400 block of West Bellevue Street.
According to an update released by OPD around 8:07 p.m. Tuesday night, both victims suffered gunshot injuries during the incident. Police say one of the victims later died from those injuries while the second victim remains in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either victim.
Police Originally Responded To Active Scene Tuesday Afternoon
Earlier Tuesday around 4 p.m., Opelousas Police alerted the public to an active investigation underway in the same area of West Bellevue Street.
At the time, officers asked residents to avoid the area while investigators secured the scene and gathered evidence.
Detectives continued working into the evening as police interviewed witnesses and processed the scene.
Latest In A Series Of Opelousas Shootings
The latest violence comes amid what has been a troubling string of separate shooting incidents in Opelousas in recent days and weeks.
While police have not indicated whether Tuesday’s shooting is connected to any previous incidents, the continued violence has many residents once again raising concerns about safety in the community.
Investigators have not announced any arrests or possible suspects as of Tuesday night.
