Two Juveniles Arrested After Shooting Inside Opelousas Walmart
The Opelousas Police Department has announced arrests in connection with Friday’s shooting incident inside the Super Walmart on Creswell Lane.
According to investigators, two male juveniles, ages 13 and 16, were taken into custody following the shooting that caused panic inside the store and triggered a massive law enforcement response.

Police Say Firearm Exchange Led To Gunfire
Authorities say the preliminary investigation revealed the juveniles allegedly arranged to meet at the Walmart to exchange firearms.
During that meeting, an altercation reportedly broke out, leading to gunfire being discharged inside the store.
Earlier reports from officials indicated the shooting happened in a restroom near the front of the store.
Investigators initially believed four juveniles between the ages of 12 and 16 were involved. Officials later confirmed a fourth suspect had been taken into custody before announcing charges against the two juveniles accused of firing weapons during the incident.
Juveniles Facing Attempted Murder Charges
Both juveniles arrested are facing multiple serious charges, including:
- Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon or Instrumentalities
- Attempted Second Degree Murder
- Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
- Illegal Carrying of a Weapon by a Juvenile
Police say both suspects will remain at a juvenile detention facility pending a court hearing.
Walmart Temporarily Closed During Investigation
Following the shooting, Walmart was temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene and gathered evidence.
A heavy police presence remained at the store for several hours Friday evening as officers worked to secure the area.
The Opelousas Police Department thanked assisting law enforcement agencies and emergency personnel for their response during the incident.
