Orgeron Says Etling Not A Lock As LSU Starting QB
The circus that is SEC Media Days is underway and one of the opening acts was LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron. As you might expect Coach "O" was peppered with questions concerning the Tigers' offense. In particular, the media pundits wanted to know about who would be leading the revamped and retooled LSU offense.
In typical coach sidestep speak Orgeron didn't say last year's starter Danny Etling would be "the guy". Instead, he gave the appropriate answer that Etling would be one of five young men who would be competing for the opportunity to lead the Tiger offense in their opening contest versus BYU.
There were questions about Etling's health. The most notable concern was about Etling's recovery from offseason back surgery. Coach Orgeron assured those in attendance and Tiger fans across the country that Etling was nearly 100% with more than a month before the season opener.
LSU is scheduled to open the 2017 season Saturday, September 2 against Brigham Young University. That game will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston. The game will be televised by ESPN.
