A week after word circulated around the sports world the Carolina Panthers were considering sitting starting quarterback Cam Newton out for the entire 2019 season to get over a shoulder injury, he has officially gone under the knife.

Panthers owner David Tepper said last week the team was entertaining the idea of the 2015 NFL MVP quarterback missing next season to fully recover.

The injury clearly impacted Newton's play on the field this season.

One year after a double-digit win season and playoff berth, the Panthers raced out to a 6-2 record in 2018, before losing 7 consecutive games, and winning in week 17 at New Orleans with a backup quarterback when the Saints were resting the majority of their starters and playbook for the postseason.
