UPDATE (Sept. 13):

An arrest has been made in connection with the death of famed battle rapper Pat Stay.

On Sunday (Sept. 11), officers from the Halifax Regional Police arrested 31-year-old Adam Drake in Tantallon, Nova Scotia, accusing him of being responsible for the stabbing death of Patrick Wayne Stay, better known as Pat Stay. Drake has been charged with first-degree murder and his first court hearing is slated for Oct. 27, 2022.

UPDATE (Sept. 7):

A spokesperson for the Halifax Regional Police has confirmed to XXL via a statement that Pat Stay was the victim of a fatal stabbing over the weekend.

"Halifax Regional police are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning in Halifax and are releasing the victim’s name," the statement reads. "At approximately 12:35 a.m., police located in a man in the area of the 1600 block of Lower Water Street who had been stabbed. The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy today and has ruled the manner of death to be a homicide. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Patrick Wayne Stay. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time."

ORIGINAL STORY (Sept. 4):

Pat Stay, an acclaimed battle rapper in Canada and the U.S., has reportedly died after being fatally stabbed.

According to a CBC News report, published on Sunday (Sept. 4), Pat Stay was stabbed to death early Sunday morning in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Stay’s brother, Peter Stay, confirmed the sad news to CBC News.

According to a press release, police said they responded to a weapons call in the 1600 block of Lower Water Street at 12:36 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a male "suffering from injuries consistent with being the victim of a stabbing." The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

XXL has reached out to the Halifax Regional Police for comment.

Pat Stay, born Patrick Wayne Stay, was a highly regarded artist in the global battle rap circuit. Two days before his death, the Canadian rapper challenged The Game to a rap battle on his diss track, "Warm Up." The song was in response to the Compton, Calif. rapper trying to goad Eminem into a rhyme battle with his 10-minute diss track "The Black Slim Shady", which appeared on his album Drillmatic: Heart Vs. Mind.

Upon hearing the sad news of Pat Stay’s passing, several hip-hop artists pay tribute to him on Twitter.

On Twitter, Eminem called him the best battle rapper ever in his elegiac tweet.

"[H]iphop lost one of the best battlers of all time," he wrote. "RIP
@patstay .. KINGS NEVER DIE‼️"

Meanwhile, on Instagram, Drake, who has spoken highly of Pat Stay in the past, posted a tribute to him in his Instagram Stories.

"RIP to the Sucker Free Boss @patstory902," he captioned in a photo of the late rapper. "One of my fav rappers ever."
