Pedestrian in Critical Condition After Being Hit While Laying Down in Lafayette Roadway
Lafayette Police say a man is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while laying in a roadway.
According to Sgt. Robin Green with the Lafayette Police Department, officers responded to a major vehicle crash that occurred in the 100 block of E. Pont Des Mouton Road just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning (May 11).
Prior to the accident, Lafayette PD received calls into the station "in reference to a man lying in the roadway." Green says shortly after receiving those calls, the pedestrian was run over by a vehicle.
Green says that during a preliminary investigation, a Fusus camera in the area showed that the pedestrian walked into the roadway of the 100 block of E. Pont Des Mouton Road and laid down.
After laying down in the roadway he was struck by a vehicle.
The 42-year-old male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
After being closed while investigators worked the crash, all lanes of Pont Des Mouton Road and I-49 have reopened and are accessible.
