Plans Unveiled for Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans — Includes Water Park, Sports Complex, Film Studio & More

We finally know the plans for the former Six Flags in New Orleans East.

Developers are calling it Bayou Phoenix, and the 227-acre lot will feature many entertainment, dining, and shopping options.

Currently, the plans are for 30 acres of athletic fields illuminated with professional-level lights, eight NBA-level hardwood courts, an indoor and outdoor water park, hotels, restaurants, a film studio, and a whole bunch of shopping options.

Those are just some of the details released yesterday by the developer. The half-billion-dollar plan will take 42 months to complete.

“We will have public input opportunity throughout the development process,” said the site developer Troy Henry. “Quite frankly, a lot of our best ideas have come from folks in the community.”

Henry said they've already completed the site's feasibility tests and demolition should be able to begin by the end of the year with the project set to be completed by 2026.

New Orleans Six Flags has sat abandoned since August 2005. The park closed days before Hurricane Katrina, took on water and heavy damage, and never re-opened after that.
