Postal Service Deadlines Loom For Sending Christmas Packages
Time is running out to make sure your Christmas packages sent through the U.S. Postal Service get there on time. Some 15 billion pieces will be sent between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. U.S. Postal Service spokesperson Twana Barber says this week is the busiest for them.
The postal service will have their hands full literally today. Barber says December 18th is the busiest day they see during the holiday season.
"We've seen a lot of projections with a ten percent increase in package volume. So the busiest mailing, shipping and delivery week and it's the week of the 18th through the 24th."
First class mail needs to be sent by December 19th, Proiriity Mail by December 20th and Priority Express by December 22nd . Barber says they are seeing about a ten percent increase in the volume of mail being sent this year…
"The 18th is expected to be the busiest day with 7 million customers expected to visit the Postal Service."
Three-billion greeting cards are also expected to be sent over the entire holiday period.
