Celebrities gathered to remember Prince at a private memorial put together by Prince's ex-wives, Manuela Testolini and Mayte Garcia in Los Angeles on Wednesday (May 12).

Musicians Herbie Hancock, Nile Rodgers, Mavis Staples, Esperanza Spalding, Janelle Monae and Spike Lee were just some of the A-list celebrities in attendance.

Little is known about the show but sources told Billboard that keyboardist Greg Phillinganes opened the memorial with "Sometimes It Snows in April." Lee also shared his purple ensemble on Instagram. "Purple beret and purple Kobe's for Prince memorial tonight in El Lay," read the caption.

It seems this is not the memorial service that Prince's family are planning though. The Purple One is set to have a "public event" for his countless fans across the world.

A source tells E! News that Testolini and Garcia "wanted to have a somber memorial since they weren't allowed at the other one" and that the top-secret event was attended by only those closest to the "Purple Rain" singer.
