Proposed Bill Could Mean Increased Penalties For Referee Abusers In Louisiana

Louisiana legislator Cameron Henry, R-Metairie, has proposed a bill that would mean stiffer penalties for fans and parents that assault and abuse officials at sporting events.

Henry's bill would mean fines of up to $5,000; maximum of three months behind bars if someone injures a referee; 40 hours of community service; and anger management counseling.

The bill comes as response to the rise of referee abuse incidents in other states.

The bill was passed in the House with a 93-1 vote and now heads to the Louisiana Senate.
