See the Rappers Showing Love to Dave Chappelle at His Radio City Music Hall Concert Series
Thirteen years ago, Dave Chappelle hosted a famous block party in New York featuring performances from the likes of Kanye West, Dead Prez, The Roots, Jill Scott and The Fugees, just months before he would leave his acclaimed sketch comedy series, Chappelle's Show, at the peak of its popularity. With its authentic ’round-the-way atmosphere and its collection of hip-hop icons, the party was hashtag Black excellence long before hashtags even existed.
In case you didn't know, for the last week or so, Chappelle's been resurrecting his block party every few days. Well, sort of. Beginning on Aug. 2, the acclaimed comedian began a residency at New York City's famed Radio City Music Hall, and just as he did at his block party over a decade ago, he's brought a constellation of hip-hop luminaries along with him until his residency ends on Aug. 24.
Performing with Chappelle at four shows so far have been The Roots, taking the stage with the comic just as they did at his block party over a decade ago. Also popping up to perform at Chappelle's residency have been Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, T.I., Big Boi, Usher, Vince Staples and Erykah Badu among others. French Montana and Fat Joe also showed up at the residency, with Chappelle inviting both rappers onstage to perform one song each at the beginning of the residency's run. For his part, 50 Cent was content with simply sitting back and enjoying the show as a guest.
Today, XXL takes a look at rappers who've attended Chappelle's residency at Radio City Music Hall thus far. Check out who's pulled up to the star-studded showcase in our list below.
