If you have seen the video and or heard the song already then you may agree, YouTube sensation Rebecca Black's 'Friday' might possibly be - The Worst .. Song ...... Ever.

Is this for real ??? Where did it come from ?? Who is responsible for this ?? What was she thinking ??? HOW DID THIS VIDEO RACK UP 16 MILLION + VIEWS ON YOUTUBE ???

Well, I can't tell you what she was thinking, but I can tell you that LA based Ark Music Factory is who is responsible for it. Black's mother paid a hefty price for a "package" from the company which sends out casting calls targeting aspiring singers between the ages of 13 and 17, in hopes that they will record the company's songs and be good enough to become overnight YouTube stars (Bieber ?).

We can definitely confirm that 'Friday' is their first major hit but it could be for ALL the wrong reasons. With 2.5 million views over this past weekend alone, skyrocketing to almost 17 million views at the time of this blog post. The first big bump for this video came with Comedy Central's Tosh.o blogged it a week ago, and by Monday morning the link had been Facebooked, re-blogged, re-Tumbr'd and Tweeted by TONS of people and soon after, the parodies and covers started popping up along with reaction videos ... like my favorite one for example (below).

Chris was right ... no one wants to be a hater .. but how much should we as "listeners" of music accept things that are just plain bad ? This girl isn't gifted. The auto-tune is horrrrrible. The song is terrible. The lyrics are ridiculous. But why so many views ?? Critics like Time magazine are saying that the virality of this video is simply because the song is so unbelievably BAD. To quote Time magazine:

A whole new level of bad.

Yahoo puts it best:

Apparently awful is the new great.

What's worse is that the same people who convinced Black that this was a "great song" has also convinced her that the people that are brutally criticizing her work are just "haters". 13yr old Black has done interviews recently saying that she "feels cyberbullied" saying "those hurtful comments shocked me".  She even admits that the hatred has brought her to tears. Even with all the tears and all the "haters" Rebecca has chosen to leave the video up saying:

I decided not to give the haters the satisfaction that they got me so bad I gave up.

She claims that:

even if people don't like the song, it's gonna be stuck in their heads. That's the point of it. It's a catchy song.

You know what else is catchy Rebecca ?

Obviously any attention is good attention to Rebecca Black and I have a feeling she isn't exactly in tears over this newfound "fame" of sorts ... even though it is fame from being awful. Hopefully when we are done making fun of Rebecca Black we never have to hear her sing again.
