Saints Make Numerous Roster Moves

The New Orleans Saints made a number of roster moves over the weekend.

The team signed 5 players, and waived 5 to make room for the newcomers.

Signed to the roster were defensive tackle John Hughes, defensive end Jason Jones, receiver Xavier Rush, defensive back Malik Foreman, and tight end/long snapper Braedon Bowman.

To make room on the roster, the Saints waived rookie cornerback Dejaun Butler, wide receiver Rashad Lawrence, safety Robenson Therezie, kicker/punter Patrick Murray and placed rookie defensive tackle Devaroe Lawrence on injured reserve.

Also, the Saints reached an injury settlement with rookie linebacker Sae Tautu,  and released him from injury reserve.

Hughes and Jones are both veterans, who have multiple career starts to their respective resumes.

The 28-year old Hughes is a former third-round draft choice by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 320-pound Hughes, has appeared in 58 career games, including 10 starts, with both the Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, compiling 115 tackles, including 5 sacks.

The 31-year old Jones entered the league out of Eastern Michigan in 2008 as a second-round pick with the Tennessee Titans, while also spending  time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Jones has appeared in 109 career games, including 70 starts, tallying 212 tackles, including 31.5 sacks.

Also added to the roster was Rush, who played his college football in New Orleans.

The 24-year old Rush played his college football at Tulane, where he accumulated 99 career receptions for 1,349 yards and 12 touchdowns.

A native of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Rush went undrafted in 2015, before spending a portion of the 2016 offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jones had 3.5 sacks with the Dolphins last season.

Foreman and Bowman are both undrafted free agents, Foreman in 2017 out of Tennessee, and Bowman in 2017 out of South Alabama.
